Switzer Falls

The sun beating down with oppressive heat, leading to lethargy. A longing to actually do something fun, get some use out of the abbreviated "long" weekend (more on that later, maybe). We fled the stifiling heat and headed up the Angeles Crest Highway. I always enjoy this stretch of two lane blacktop, ascending out of the basin into cooler elevations teeming with wildlife and wildgrowth.

To Switzer Falls, a pleasant hike along a creek bed. Cooler from the elevation alone, but also shaded by trees and the steep canyon walls.

This, I have never seen the likes of before!!! It seems to be a pine cone with the core completly hollowed out!!! But it is HUGE, the core part is about as big around as a typical pine cone. Strange.

There used to be some kind of camp ground or faculities towards the end of the hike, as evedenced by these old abandoned stoves.
