Retro Taco
I had heard that last Saturday Menace of The Woody Show would be doing a back to school event at a shoe store in the area. One of the Taco Bell restaurants that we frequent is just down the street from the store, so I suggested that we get some lunch there, then go over to check out the event.
While we were at the Taco Bell, either younger or surrogate made mention that another group looked like they were going to be going to the shoe store, too. Looked like they were from the station, they thought. I looked over, and yea, could be, but I didn't look very hard.
We headed over after we were done. Surrogate sees Menace and says something about “that white guy” over there. I thought that was pretty funny, his original name was The White Menace!!! Headed over and said hi (he acted like he recognized me, maybe he did, I've seen him before, or maybe he just has that way about him) and asked if they'd been over at the Taco Bell, and he says that they had been. That reminded me, fairly often when Taco Bell comes up on the show, he'll call on Taco Bell to bring back the 4 Alarm Double Decker Taco, discontinued 1997. I turned my phone to selfie video and asked him to tell me about it, and here it is!!! It was pretty cool.
My personal 4 Alarm Double Decker Taco is the BLT Taco they had back around the same time, it was pretty straightforward, a good amount of bacon, and lettuce and tomato, along with a ranch dressing on a flour tortilla. I feel like it was just a bit after they'd had the 59-79-99 menu, and they sold for something like $1.29 at the time, so they were a little expensive for what you got, but they were tasty!!!
They were doing raffles for concert tickets and The Woody Show spatulas (a very expensive item, according to Menace), and we hung around for two of the drawings, but didn't win anything. I'd heard there would be theme park tickets, too, but not while we were there. That's what I would have liked. We also showed up in the background of one of his videos that he posted.
Menace has been using one of the GLP drugs (the fat shot), and he's looking good for it!!! Don't know how many of the 4 Alarm Double Decker Tacos he'd be able to put away now!!!

How I Spent My Birthday
I've mentioned before, back when I started at my job they used to give you your birthday off, or a day near it. It was only a few years in that they did away with that, but gave us an extra day off. I've kept the tradition!!!
One of my favorite things to do, that I don't actually do very often, is to go to the beach. My younger as well enjoys it, and recently he's gone with some of his friends.
Here's a place that I've known of for just about most of my life, the beaches of Alamitos Bay in Long Beach. My dad would take his boats down there and launch them near Marine Stadium for whatever excursion we embarked upon, and I had an Aqua Cat catamaran that we would put in the back of my parents' station wagon or truck, disassembled, and set up on the shore of the beaches nearest the isthmus between it and the beach of Long Beach harbor. Also had been to Mother's Beach, just down from Marine Stadium, a few times.
I generally prefer an actual ocean facing beach with surf. This area is blocked by the breakwater of Long Beach harbor, and is even further back than that, so there's nearly no surf. The area his friend likes is called Horny Corner. I've heard that it was originally Hornay Corner, after Belmont Shores developer Thomas Hornay. Who knows, but you know a name like that is going to stick!!!
Another thing I'm not a fan of is the parking situation in the area. Belmont Shores is notoriously bad for parking, but on a weekday we were able to find street parking with no problem. We set up on the beach, then mostly soaked in the water for most of the time we were there!!! When we were getting ready to depart, we discussed how we were going to do it. The boy was thinking he could stay with the stuff, and we could take turns going to the showers a short way down and changing in the restrooms. I said we could just take the whole bag and both change, then get our beach chairs on the way back. We changed, then headed back on the sidewalk to keep from sanding up our shoes, made it most of the way back to the car, and remembered we'd forgotten to get the chairs!!! For the record, I saw nothing that made me especially horny at Horny Corner.
Afterwards we got some lunch at Taco Bell, where I had just heard they have a $7 Luxe Cravings box with a chalupa, double decker taco supreme, and 7-layer beefy burrito, plus chips and cheese and a drink. A lot of food for a little money!!!
In addition to all that, a few days previous we got together for a celebration at my mom's house. My sister's birthday and mine are only a couple weeks apart, so we nearly always anymore observe them both on the same day. Sometimes barbecue, sometimes out to eat, this time pizzas and sides, as well as some soak time in her pool. I had mentioned German Black Forest cake, and my wife found a recipe for Black Forest brownies!!! They were a big hit!!!

Wild Dreams
At the beginning of the week, the boy and I both some pretty wild dreams, and as I've said before it's pretty rare that I remember my dreams. I heard a few days ago that it was World Lion Day, so now I've got to share.
I dreamed that I was remembering back to when we had lions. The rest of the dream was mostly a flashback to those times. They were outdoor pets, and of course our yard has no fence. We had two, a male and a female. I remembered how they would come up and snuggle us when we'd come out of the house, just like a house cat, except they are several hundred pounds and the snuggle would almost knock you down!!!
I remembered feeding them big old hunks of raw meat, they loved that!!! I remembered them bounding down the canyon across the street. I thought to myself, "Wow, that was a hell of a liabilaty!!!"
I had another dream that night, too. My dad was still alive, and a bunch of us were getting together on a Saturday, something like the third time in a month we were all going out somewhere for a big family lunch. I was thinking, wow, that's gotta be a few hundred dollars every time!!! They told me that after we ate, we were going to see Martin Luther King III give a speech or a sermon or something. Huh, I didn't even know there was a Martin Luther King III!!!
My son's dream was he was at a pizza place. Not a full-on restraunt, it was just a take-out window in the side of a wall. He orders his pizza, and it comes out, but it's not just a pizza, there's hot wings, a big bag of them!!! And hard shell tacos!!! And a video game!!!
As his order is coming out, another guy who had ordered close to the same thing after him starts to grab it, and he tells him, "Hey!!! That's mine!!!" The guy backs off, and he takes his huge haul of food and game. He says the tacos were amazing!!!
